Wine Site of the Month - Garagiste Wine

Posted on 7-23-10

Garagiste Wine is not your typical wine site. Yes, it has the website, but it really only serves as the place where you can sign up for their email offers. And it is in those emails where all the action happens - all the great offers, the phenomenal writing, the never before heard of boutique wines at incredible prices. There are few emails I enjoy getting more than the stories and offers I get from Garagiste. If you have any interest in great story telling, experimenting with your wine or getting a great deal, then Gargiste is for you.

Late to the show...Email at last...

Posted on 8-26-10

Sometimes I amaze myself with how late to the show I can be. Take, for example, that I am user #80,911 on CellarTracker. But, better late than never on that one, I guess (as I use it all the time). Now, I have finally added a way to subscribe to this blog via email. Again, late to the game, but, it's here now, so sign up if you'd like to get posts delivered to you as I go. You can find the sign-up box in the right navigation.

It is amazing to me how much activity there is in the online wine world - bloggers, wine communities, wine sites, winery sites...and Twitter, the online phenomenon where everyone with a thought can share it with others who may or may not care. If you do care, follow me on Twitter and let's start up a discussion about wine.

Dear Anonymous...

On Thursday, March 04, 2010
This one is going to be short and sweet, but it's been building for a while.

For me, interacting with people in the social space, blogosphere, twitter world, whatever you want to call it, is, for the most part, about good conversation with people I find to be interesting, add something to the conversation and, above all, are authentic about their involvement. So, it is with some dismay that I still continue to see comments left on my blog by the ever ubiquitous "Anonymous." The even worse part is that most of the time, comments left by "Anonymous" always tend toward the negative or, at the very least, not constructive.

I have a filter on my blog that allows me to moderate comments before posting, so I can cut out any profanity, hate or anything truly distasteful. For the record, I have never declined a comment left on my blog, nor do I have any intention to. However, as of late, it's been with great resolve that I've let "Anonymous" commenters through with rants about what they believe to be all the ills of the wine world.

My plea to all you "Anonymous's" out there - I'm more than happy to engage in meaningful conversation with you, but I'd take it a lot more seriously and everyone would get a lot more out of it if you just owned up to who you are.

Question: anyone else feel the same way or is it just me?

  1. Anonymous Said,

Good grief, RJ! have you ever considered the possibility that you may be responsible for this curse from We the Anonymous? That you may be responsible for a situation that Under the "Choose your Identity" option that your blog provides to those of us wishing to comment, many of us might not understand how to implement the apparently complex "Google Account" option, nor the "Open ID" option, nor the "Name/UR"L option? Many of us don't see a tutorial on how to select these non-anonymous, apparently time wasting, stupid options you impose on your readers and commenters. Of the "MANDATORY" options that "MUST" be selected in order to leave a comment on "YOUR" blog, the Anonymous option is the only option that is simplest and easiest to use in order to send a comment to your blog without having first to obtain a PhD in computer science.. What do you think, RJ? Does these comments from us, the Anonymous nave merit?

  2. My point is not that anonymous commentors nave merit, it's that I would rather know who someone is to engage in a conversation about wine, which is what this blog is about.

  3. Anonymous Said,

RJ, Good Grief Redux! (Consumer friendly land this is Not!) Then would you please leave a tutorial, RJ, on how to implement all three of the "Choose an Identity," non-anonymous options which a visitor must employ in order to publish a comment on your blog? Thank you.

  4. to be honest with you, i don't know how to do openid all those other things - i just have a gmail account and use that.

what's most simple is just sign with your name :-)
