Wine Site of the Month - GrapeStories

Posted on 2-27-10

Grape Stories, AKA CellarTracker 2.0, is everything I had hoped it would be and much more. As a cellar inventory management system, Eric Levine definitely made this a far better, more functional site, including easier navigation paths, more bulk features and a less clutterd UI. But he has now also included a whole community around it - so much so that it already, in the first day of beta launch, feels like my personal wine portal. I can easily see losing many, many hours to exploring all the great new features of GrapeStories. Great job, Eric!

My Top Ten Wine List for 2009

Re-posted on 2-27-10

Just when you thought you couldn't handle any more Top 10 lists for 2009 or the noughties decade, here's another one to add to the mix. This is not a list that covers all the wines of the world, just the wines of my world, those wines that made distinct impression on me, on the nose, on the palate, whatever. If you've had any of them, let me know what you think. Happy new year!

It is amazing to me how much activity there is in the online wine world - bloggers, wine communities, wine sites, winery sites...and Twitter, the online phenomenon where everyone with a thought can share it with others who may or may not care. If you do care, follow me on Twitter and let's start up a discussion about wine.

2007 Bandol Rosé Domaine Tempier

On Monday, October 27, 2008
Sometimes others just say it better than I can...hands down the best Rose I've ever had (but that could be because I don't like Rose much) - this one is definitely worth trying at least once...

[From K&LWines website]
Some people think $140,000 is a ridiculous sum to pay for a car. But if Porsche is your passion, and you've studied the engineering and performance of the new Turbo coupe, that price seems more than fair. Others think a pound of fish at $29.99 is obscene, but for those who know of Copper River Salmon's paltry one-month-long availability, and its reputation as the tastiest, richest fish in North America, why not enjoy the delicacy when you can? Well, for rosé fanatics and fans of exceptional wines of all types, there may be no better pink tipple the world over than this: Bandol rosé from the star of the appellation, Domaine Tempier. This is not a quaffer, mind you. But a rich, mouth filling, full bodied and broad rosé.

My rating: 92

  1. jason Said,

Told you this stuff was good!

  2. bozinny Said,

I love a good rose! I can't wait to try this (btw..how do you add the accent to the e in Rose?)

  3. it really is good - a little hard to find and expensive for a rose, but, if you like rose, this is one of the best

  4. Ron Said,

The Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé is indeed superb, even for folks who ordinarily don't like rosé. It's dry and delicious and versatile. It's great before dinner or for merely sipping on a sunny afternoon. It pairs nicely with most any Mediterranean dish and, surprisingly enough, with pork as well.
However, sad to say, this wonderful wine has now been fully discovered and demand has soared to the point that it is now overpriced. I mean, a rosé by any name is still a rosé, meaning a wine that should NOT be priced above $35 a bottle, tops.
As for the person wondering how to get the é in rosé, be advised that if you have a PC, you only need hold down the Alt key while typing the numbers 0233 on the number keypad on the right of your keyboard.
    Cheers.

  5. thanks, ron. agreed on all fronts. it is a great rose, but i have not bought a bottle since as it has become cost prohibitive, especially for a rose. if i liked the varietal more, i may have bitten the bullet and bought a couple more bottles, but as is, probably won't. that said, this truly is the best bottle of rose i have ever tasted.

    cheers!
